Mary Korey | Riley Matters

In 2013, we were 36 weeks pregnant with our second child, a girl. Everything was picture perfect, an easy pregnancy. Until, suddenly, it wasn’t. After not feeling her moving for some time, we went to get her checked out, but it was too late. Our Riley Quinn was already gone, and I was severely preeclamptic. I had had no symptoms, no warning signs of what was about to happen. Luckily we were able to have another child after her, but again had complications with preeclampsia that required her being induced early, and necessitating a stay in the NICU.

Now, we try our best to educate as many people as possible, and to help find a cause and a cure for this terrible condition. We are honored to be coordinators for this event. Our greatest hope is that we can help prevent someone else from experiencing tragedy or a dangerous birth experience. The goal is for everyone to have happy and healthy pregnancies and births!

We can never tell you how deeply we are touched by your support for our little family. It means so much if we are able to help another family recognize and catch the signs of Preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy before it's too late.

If poor Riley's short life can have such a drastic impact on someone else's world, maybe it will show just how much she still matters.

We love you, little lady, and always will.

This $35 is just the start, little one. It may be small, but much like yourself, it's far greater than it seems. It's the sum of your birthdate. And yes my doll, I plan to get to the 4-digit year!
