Varina Winder | Theodore's HELLPers

Hi all -

On June 2 there is a 5k "fun run"/walk in Silver Spring/Wheaton, MD to both raise awareness and funding for the Preeclampsia Foundation. According to the WHO, preeclampsia is one of the least-funded research areas in the public health space, which is part of the reason why no one really knows what causes it. It affects about 2-8 percent of women globally and is responsible for approximately 14 percent of global maternal deaths (the second leading cause, behind hemorrhaging, which can also occur during preeclampsia/HELLP/eclampsia).

The Preeclampsia Foundation both provides grants to fund innovative research and to improve health care practices for those affected by preeclampsia/HELLPS/eclampsia. It has become a trusted resource for me since Theodore was born, and I'd love to get a little crew together to help support it. (This is definitely a small little walk with not a lot of bells and whistles behind it.)

Jeff, Theodore and I will be walking it and we'd love for you to join us as you're able! The walk is free to register; you can do so here. Just click register, Washington, DC Metro area, "new walker," and then join a team (on the right hand side). Our team name is called Theodore's HELLPers.

If you can't join (I sent this to DC folks + my family!) and want to donate, you can do so here (but no pressure - this is more about getting family/friends together).

Funds raised: $645 of $25
