As you may know, both my grandchildren were born premature as a result of preeclampsia, a condition unique to pregnancy which causes the mother's blood pressure to rise resulting in the risk of brain injury and other complications. My daughter, Claudia, suffered from preeclampsia in both pregnancies which resulted in blood pressure medication, hospital bed rest and ultimately early deliveries to protect Claudia and the health of her babies.
James was born on September 4, 2009 weighing 3 pounds 14 ounces. Tiny but strong, he was home 3 days after birth.
Isabel was born on November 6, 2012 weighing 2 pounds, 13 ounces and spend 42 days in the NICU.
Following this experience, Claudia has become involved in the Patient Advisory Council of The Preeclampsia Foundation and the Walk Chair for Austin's first Promise Walk for Preeclampsia.
I am proud of her advocacy for this issue and grateful for your donations and help in spreading the word about preeclampsia. My goal is to help our community raise funds and awareness and save the lives of moms and babies.
Please make a donation to support our efforts to fund education and research into this life-threatening disorder of pregnancy.
