Mission Family 2017
We know that everyone who attends our walk has a story, so it's our honor to feature the Martin family's story at this year's walk and in our local media.

As a healthy 33 year old woman with no family history of illness, Marguerite and her husband were ecstatic to welcome their first child.  Without any warning, "like a freight train," words like 24-hour urine test, swelling, elevated liver enzymes, and magnesium took control over the Martin family.  Seven weeks before her due date, Marguerite was rushed into emergency surgery holding only the hand of an anesthesiologist because her health was too critical for her husband to be allowed into the operating room.

To hear the rest of the Martin Family's inspiring story, register to join us on May 6!

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication with symptoms of high blood pressure, headaches, visual disturbances and elevated levels of protein in the urine.  The longer someone has Preeclampsia, the likelier they are to sustain damage to their organs, and suffer from seizures and strokes.  If left untreated, Preeclampsia can lead to serious, and even fatal complications for both mother and baby.   The only known "cure" is to deliver the baby, but even after delivery, some women still experience complications from preeclampsia,
Preeclampsia DOUBLES a woman's risk of future heart disease and stroke, and QUADRUPLES their chance of developing chronic high blood pressure.
Preeclampsia is the leading cause of Premature birth, and one of the leading causes of maternal death.  It takes the lives of 76,000 mothers and 500,000 babies each year.

We hope that through our efforts, future women will no longer have to deal with Preeclampsia, or will at the very least, have a better way to treat it.
