The NYC Promise Walk is so thankful for the good work of our 2016 MISSION FAMILY, The Levines!
I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia with my first pregnancy in June 2015. What started as increasingly high blood pressure readings and severe swelling and pitting edema, quickly turned into severe preeclampsia. Efforts by my obstetrician to induce me failed and the consistently high blood pressure caused a placental abruption. Despite my doctor's best efforts at giving me the natural birth I wanted, my son, William Isaac, was born via emergency c-section on June 13, 2015, weighing 6 lbs 5 oz. Due to the magnesium sulfate used to prevent seizures from constant elevated blood pressure and the ongoing threat of complications, I was in high risk recovery in labor and delivery, unable to get out of bed and visit my son in the NICU for the first 26 hours of his life. We met briefly in the operating room and not again until the next day. Though heartbreaking, I know now that our continued monitoring (even if it was in separate recovery rooms) was vital. William is now a thriving 10 month old baby, who loves dancing with his mama, listening to his papa sing and putting all of his toys in his mouth!
