New York City Promise Walk for Preeclampsia

Date: June 4, 2016

Location: Cadman Plaza Park, Brooklyn, NY 11201

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT PROMISE WALK!

It was a great day of awareness, fundraising for important programs and resources for those families touched by preeclampsia, and such great support from the community.

There's still time to reach our goals, so keep the momentum going! Reach out to your family, friends, and coworkers and tell them all about your great experience at the walk (be sure to show them all the photos!), and encourage them to support you. Follow up and thank all those that did donate, and please contact the Promise Walk Office for any tips on post-event fundraising.
Thank you all for an amazing day, a great event, and for coming together to promise that this generation and future generations will never experience preeclampsia.

Photos coming soon!

The NYC Promise Walk is so thankful for the good work of our 2016 MISSION FAMILY, The Levines!

I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia with my first pregnancy in June 2015. What started as increasingly high blood pressure readings and severe swelling and pitting edema, quickly turned into severe preeclampsia. Efforts by my obstetrician to induce me failed and the consistently high blood pressure caused a placental abruption. Despite my doctor's best efforts at giving me the natural birth I wanted, my son, William Isaac, was born via emergency c-section on June 13, 2015, weighing 6 lbs 5 oz. Due to the magnesium sulfate used to prevent seizures from constant elevated blood pressure and the ongoing threat of complications, I was in high risk recovery in labor and delivery, unable to get out of bed and visit my son in the NICU for the first 26 hours of his life. We met briefly in the operating room and not again until the next day. Though heartbreaking, I know now that our continued monitoring (even if it was in separate recovery rooms) was vital. William is now a thriving 10 month old baby, who loves dancing with his mama, listening to his papa sing and putting all of his toys in his mouth!
