MARTINEZ MUSKETEERS est. 2012
Our story began in 2012, at 26 weeks when I was given a diagnosis. I didn't know the gravity of preeclampsia until I walked into my 31 week appointment, and my OB told me I would be admitted to the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy. We were both still hoping to make it to 37 weeks! At this rate, protein had already been spilling in my urine, the blood pressure readings were up and down, and I had gained 6-7 pounds in a week. I had Ellie two days later because she was in fetal distress. I only learned later that my placenta was detaching. My daughter spent roughly 6 weeks (43 days) in the NICU.
In the fall of 2015, I found out I was pregnant and this time, I had already anticipated a preeclampsia diagnosis. My entire pregnancy was anxiety ridden, and I look back on that as a big regret. This is probably my last pregnancy and I wished I enjoyed every second. This is what preeclampsia mentally does. I went to work one morning, and had a terrible headache. My home bp readings was 189/100. I needed to get to the hospital FAST. I became sick later that evening, and by the next morning, I met my son, little Ro. He was the biggest preemie they had there. At 34 weeks 5 days, he was 5 pounds!
Life is wonderful with these two. I wish they didn't have early and rough starts, but I'm so soo soo grateful that they're here. This is why I walk. They are why I walk.
~ For every mile I walk between now and May 31st, I will donate a dollar to the Foundation. Won't you join me on this challenge? ~ Together, we can make strides!
