no HELLP wanted

Thank you for visiting our team page! We are excited to "make strides and deliver hope" for families affected by preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Our team leader, Shaina, was diagnosed with Preeclampsia & HELLP Syndrome while pregnant with her first child.  This diagnosis resulted in an emergency c-section under general anesthesia and two platelet transfusions during the surgery.  She had an overnight stay in ICU before her stay on the maternity unit.  Her daughter, Emma, was full term at 39 weeks gestation, and spent 7 days in the NICU.  Today, Emma is a happy healthy little girl, and an amazing big sister to her little brother Oliver (no preeclampsia or HELLP Syndrome).

HELLP syndrome is a life-threatening pregnancy complication usually considered to be a variant of preeclampsia. Both conditions usually occur during the later stages of pregnancy, or sometimes after childbirth.

H (hemolysis, which is the breaking down of red blood cells)
EL (elevated liver enzymes)
LP (low platelet count)

Our team is grateful for your donations and for your help in spreading the word.
